When buying food from a restaurant or cafe, people expect that they will pay more attention to cleanliness, but a man from Britain might not believe this. He had such an experience that he himself is saying that he will not go to a cafe for some time. This person has claimed that he found a worm in the pastries he bought for his children from Cafe Nero.
Posting on Reddit, the worried dad uploaded a picture of the pastry, which showed the worm between two raisins. “The kids had a little extra protein in their Cafe Nero pastry this morning,” he joked, later adding that the worm was in fact “very much alive”.
The man revealed that he has not returned the food to Cafe Nero, but suggested that he could contact them. He said: “I did not. We took it and it must have fallen by the wayside. I can reach out on social media and see if they will pay for the family’s pesticide tablets.” He also mentioned that it is “fairly safe to say” that his family will stay away from Cafe Nero “for a while”.
Surprisingly, the worm was alive in the pastry. (Photo: Reddit)
After being contacted for comment, Café Nero confirmed it was urgently investigating the unsavory discovery. “This is something we are now looking into on a diligent basis. As it appears no location has been highlighted, this will require a lot of investigation,” the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said: “We have set high hygiene and food preparation standards, and even an isolated incident like this is unacceptable. We will conduct a thorough investigation to understand what may have happened.” Caffè Nero was founded in London in 1997 when founder Gerry Ford bought five coffee shops. Since then the company has expanded, opening more than 1,000 branches in 11 countries.
